South Carolina Clean Hands Campaign: Save Lives, Clean Your Hands!
The South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) has launched a new statewide hand hygiene initiative in the state’s nearly100 public and private member hospitals. The “SC Clean Hands Campaign: Save Lives, Clean Your Hands!” is a part of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) global hand hygiene initiative to reduce healthcare associated infection (HAI).
May 5, 2009 highlighted a kickoff statewide webinar with WHO and all member SCHA hospitals. Special presentations were given by Professor Didier Pittet from WHO, Dr. Peter Pronovost from Johns Hopkins, Dr. Thomas Zweng from Novant Health, Dixie Roberts from our state Public Health Office, Helen Haskell from Mothers Against Medical Error and several South Carolina hospitals who have had successes in reducing HAI.
The South Carolina Clean Hands Campaign: Save Lives, Clean Your Hands! partnership with WHO also includes many key public health and community organizations such as AARP, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC), Mothers Against Medical Errors (MAME), Palmetto APIC, and Novant Health. South Carolina is the first state in the United States to embark on a statewide hand hygiene campaign in partnership with the World Health Organization.
